Appleby family continues support of school based health centers and legacy of the late Dr. Robert E. Appleby

Dr. Robert E. Appleby's School Based Health Centers play a critical role in Norwalk students' lives.

New Haven Public Schools Superintendent Garth Harries and Mayor Toni Harp joined second-grader Ramaya and 
fourth-grader Jamelette Dixon Tuesday to cut the ribbon of the Smile New Haven! school-based dental clinic at Troup. 

Telehealth Program Links School-Based Behavioral Health Providers with Specialists
  
  
  

Project ECHO, which stands for Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes, is a recurring teleconference 
that joins primary care providers and specialists to discuss challenging cases in a particular subject area.

Montville High School Offers Easier Access to Care
School just started for the students of Montville High School, but the new school-based health center run by 
United Community and Family Services is already overwhelmingly busy with student visits. 

Even though starting this fall all city schools have a full-time nurse, an on-site health clinic can provide all or 
most of the services of a doctor’s office, including shots and prescriptions. 

Clifford Beers Clinic provides mental health intervention in an effective community partnership that improves comprehensive 
health care in schools. As early as 1961, Clifford Beers Clinic was reaching out to area schools to explore the need for services.
 
Today, the CIFC has an operating budget of more than $12 million. The not-for-profit organization runs a variety of Danbury 
programs including Head Start, school-based health centers and a community-based health center for low-income families.
